Pretty as a midsummer's morn... they called her 'Dawn.'

[ reply to this comment, or elsewhere on the profile! I won't ignore you regardless of where. ]
With the band already in full swing, the atmosphere of the evening was set.  There would be dancing and conversations; people enjoying one another's company, and catching up after so long to share stories of their most recent endeavors.  Maria had a list of her own tucked neatly in the beaded purse of her mind, and pressed into her red-lipped smile, ready for whatever conversations she would have herself thrown in.

All in everything, Maria was an excellent conversationalist.  Her observant nature had instilled in her a feigned sincerity and heightened charisma, allowing her to draw a crowd and hold it tightly between the clutches of her silk glove.  All things considered, working a crowd was lovely, but all she really wanted to do was dance.

Her hands gripped lightly at her younger sister's shoulders and she gave them a squeeze.  Her smile was in place already, though not the typical, courteous one she would hold with others, something sweet and sisterly, if not a bit coy, as she leaned in to Annabeth and gestured out to the already brimming banquet hall.

"I'm afraid you're my date tonight, Anna." She told her, with a small sigh on her tongue as it clicked against the roof of her mouth, and her smile -- that smile -- remained pressed into her features.  Maria removed her hands from her sister's shoulders, and let one guide her by the elbow towards the table that had their names written neatly in an elegant hand on finely printed place cards.

[ ;; I hope this is alright, darling!  If not, let me know, and I could try something else. ]
For all she tried - and she did try, tirelessly - Anna was never quite able to master the arts of conversation as her kin. All of her family, mother, father, sister, seemed to be able to transpose themselves into a minor key of elegance she herself was barred from. Leaving her bounding through each note to a tune completely her own. She was too enthusiastic, or brash. Unmeasured. So to avoid embarassing herself and her family name she was always relieved to stick by her sisters side.

To say that Annabeth admired her would be a crime. It would fall far short of reality. To Anna, there was no one more divine than her own sister, and she would be the first to say so to anyone who broached the subject of Maria in her presence in any capacity. Tonight was no exception. Somehow it seemed to Anna no matter how pretty she looked, how carefully she chose her party frock, when she would be at Maria's side again her older sister would outshine her with such seeming effortlessness she could hardly be bitter.

And she wasn't. Her pitfalls never bothered her. And her love for her sister could not be tainted by jealousy. So when Maria took her arm and smiled at her as she did, Annabeth could only beam back, white teeth peering between her pink lips as the older guided her toward their table. She fiddled with the fingers of her gloves.

"Me? Your date, oh surely there were fellows chomping at the bit all over to accompany you!" She whispered, a note of scandal, of elation in her voice as she turned her face toward her sister. Still grinning so much so a dimple had pressed her cheek. "You must tell me why not take one of them? Not that I'm complaining of course." She went on, unaware of where they were until she was confronted with the table.

She gently picked her name place up. "Do they always have to cram my name like this? Simply Anna would have been all the same to me." She almost huffed, indicating how the spindly, pretty script drew closer together to fit 'Annabeth' across the card.

[ it was perfect! Absolutely perfect! ]
